🌿 The Ideal pH: A Window Into Your Body’s Energy and Digestion.

Dr. Carey Reams, an American agronomist and health researcher, developed a fascinating and insightful approach to understanding human health: the Reams Biological Theory of Ionization (RBTI). His work emphasized that health is fundamentally an energy equation, and that the ionic composition of our biological fluids tells us how efficiently our bodies are producing and managing energy.


🧪 What Is RBTI?


RBTI is a scientific framework that analyzes the ionic energy patterns in our bodies. It helps practitioners assess how well a person is digesting food, absorbing nutrients, eliminating waste, and producing energy at the cellular level.


RBTI uses non-invasive testing of fresh urine and saliva samples to measure key values that reflect body chemistry and vitality. The full test involves:


  • ✅ One test on saliva: • pH only (indicates upper digestion)

  • ✅ Six tests on urine: • pH • Conductivity (salts/mineral load) • Sugar content (carbohydrate load) • Cell debris (tissue breakdown) • Nitrate nitrogen (from protein metabolism) • Ammonia nitrogen (from improper protein digestion)



Each number has meaning on its own, but also in relation to the others, offering a full picture of digestion, energy, and balance in the body.



Ideal pH: Why 6.4?



Dr. Reams taught that the ideal pH for both saliva and urine is 6.4. This value represents a state of optimal biological ionization, meaning the body is functioning at a high level of efficiency — neither too acidic nor too alkaline.


But here’s the important part:

pH is a logarithmic scale.

That means:


  • A pH of 6.3 is 10 times more acidic (or 10 times less alkaline) than 6.4.

  • A pH of 6.2 is 100 times more acidic than 6.4!

So, even a small shift away from 6.4 — whether in saliva or urine — may indicate that the body is working harder and less efficiently, even if symptoms haven’t yet appeared.



🧬 Saliva and Urine: Two Sides of the Digestive Story



  • Saliva pH represents your upper digestive system, including the liver, pancreas, and stomach. It gives insight into enzyme function and the beginning of food breakdown.

  • Urine pH reflects the lower digestive system, particularly the ability to absorb nutrients and eliminate waste through the kidneys.



RBTI emphasizes that the balance between these two systems matters. If your urine pH is too acidic, it could mean your body is struggling to absorb minerals and nutrients. If it’s too alkaline, digestion and detoxification may be sluggish or incomplete.


This balance is why there’s no such thing as a one-size-fits-all diet. Each person’s body chemistry is unique. What works beautifully for one person may stress the system of another.

Maintaining an optimal pH helps with:


  • Better digestion and nutrient absorption

  • More efficient cellular energy production
